about the author

Anna-Maria McLean is a teacher from South East London. She has been working in schools for 22 years. She has a background in art and design with a BA Hons Degree in print media and surface design. Her passion for the natural world was ignited by trips to the Horniman Museum and she remembers being intrigued by the many animals and birds in the bell cloche jars. Anna-Maria is passionate about caring for all creatures and has rescued and adopted many pets. She currently lives with her family including a cat called Paisley, two turtles called Dotty and Maria, a giant African Albino Land snail called Gary and a tank of tropical fish. She even saves snails, slugs and worms when they get in harm’s way when it rains. Anna-Maria thinks it is very important to educate children about our amazing world and develop their vocabulary and has been told that her illustrations and writing should inspire the next generation of ‘David Attenboroughs’.
